Bible Study: November 30, 2007

"Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof."- Psalm 96:10-11
It is Friday November 30, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of II Corinthians. Please read, II Corinthians 5 -- 8 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about living by faith; the ministry of reconciliation; believers not to be unequally joined with unbelievers; Paul's ministry; and the grace of giving.
No one would deny that we are living in a day of deception and compromise, and, unfortunately, Christians are tempted to search for satisfaction through what the world has to offer rather than seek Jesus. To provide answers for this problem, Paul earnestly asked five questions that deserve our prayerful consideration because they have eternal consequences for us. First he tells us to not be yoked together with unbelievers, meaning that we should not be joined together or bonding with those who are not Christians. "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (II Corinthians 6:14-18).
Since there is a real danger of being caught up with world views that press upon us daily, we are reminded that God dwells in us and that by bonding with unbelievers that we are losing dight of that and quick to fall into the gods of the world. James was led to warn us that who ever is a friend of the world is the enemy of God, we can not have both in our lives. "From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." (James 4:1-4).
This is important to remember, since the believer and the unbeliever each has a different master, the material things and habits of the world become their god. For this reason Paul was led to write, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." (Colossians 3:1-4).
The Christian's call is to come out from among them, and be separate from the morally impure. In doing so, Jesus will receive you, meaning that you are free from the world and now one of His children. "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (II Corinthians 6:17-18).
Paul went on to say: "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you. Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation." (II Corinthians 7:1-2).
To come out from among them means, that we should avoid becoming involved with unbelieving friends or joining in activities that keep us from being our best for Christ and His Church, even though we are called to love all people as God does. We are to respect, not judge and love one another, but we are not to become apart of their wordly activities that keep us from living righteously and the way God wants us to live.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with a new day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings that you give me each ang every day, especially the ones I never think about like working fingers that can type this message.
Lord, the world is tempting and it is so easy to fall into the wrong crowd. We want to fit in and not be seen as freaks because we believe in You and follow You.
I have tasted the world without you and found out that life is nothing unless You are with me. The struggles that I went through made me want to crawl in a hole and never come out, I was lost, scared, and depressed, but I came back to You and You helped me through and contiue to each and every day.
I know that my struggles will bring me many blessings to come because I know that You are right here with me comforting and giving me hope.
Lord, I ask you to be with those who struggle with breaking away from the world, work in their hearts and give them peace knowing that You are the way, the truth, and the only life to live.

Bible Study: November 29, 2007

It is Thursday November 29, 2007 and today we begin our studies on the book of II Corinthians. Please read, II Corinthians 1 -- 4 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about forgiveness of those who repent; the Lordship of Christ; and Christian suffering.
"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." (II Corinthians1:1-4)
Many would assume that no one had more spiritual authority than Paul, yet he wrote: "Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand." (1:23,24). The Corinthians were responsible to God, not to Paul, just as any Christian is only responsible to God in matters of faith.
The body of a Christian is compared to an ordinary clay pot and the precious treasure it contains is Christ in you. "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." (4:6,7). Earthen vessels (clay pots) have very little value of their own so their essential worth depends upon what they contain. If they are left empty, they have no purpose for existence. However, if they are filled with gold, their value increases dramatically. We have this treasure of gold in our earthen vessels and are precious to God. Because of this we are to be accountable to Him as providers of His Word.
Being accountable to God includes how we respond to experiences common to many of God's children, we are to remain calm, peaceful, and faithful through all struggling knowing that Jesus is right there with us and has taken on this cross with us. "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you." (4:8-12). Since the Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian, we are expected to express His characteristics during every trial and suffering. We can also face trials and suffering with the confidence that our Lord is lovingly working out what is best for our eternal good.
Trials and troubles, in whatever form, are necessary for spiritual growth; without them, we would not exercise our faith or develop spiritual insight and strength. Just as it was necessary for Jesus to die, we too must die to self-love and become willing partakers of His sufferings. "We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." (II Corinthians 4:13-18).

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with a new day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings you have given me today.
Lord, I know that every struggle in my life is to make me a stronger and better person for Your glory. I think back to the times of struggling without You in my life and I have to say thank you for watching over me even though I did not know you personally.
Forgive me for not putting my trust and faith in You and thank you for not giving up on me.
I know that I will still have struggles, but this time I am stronger in my faith knowing that You are right there with me bearing my cross and making me into the person that You created me to be.
Walk with me, guide me, and be with me in all that I do, it is only with You that I am able to overcome any struggle.

Bible Study: November 28, 2007

It is Wednesday November 28, 2007 and today we are completing oue studies on the book of I Corinthians. Please read, I Corinthians 14 -- 16 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Spiritual gifts; the resurrection of Christ; and a collection for the Jerusalem saints.
It is a triumphant fact that Jesus Christ died for our sins and was buried and rose again three dys later. Paul declared that whoever received the gospel will take it in their heart unless they did not believe. "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" (I Corinthians 15:1-4).
For the Christian, death is not the end of life but only the beginning of a magnificent, eternal future with our wonderful Lord. "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." (15:51-53).
Paul concluded his glorious thoughts on the return of the Lord Jesus by saying: "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." (15:58).
While Paul wrote of a joyful eternity with Christ, the Apostle John wrote of the coming judgment for all unbelievers. "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:11-15). Christians have the utmost confidence that if the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in them then their mortal bodies will be raised up by that Spirit." (See Romans 8:11).
Our threefold purpose for living is to become the person that God planned for us to be so we may accomplish His will for us on earth and be prepared for the triumphant splendor of heaven. Concerning heaven, the words of Jesus have brought precious comfort to millions when He said: "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." (John 14:1-3). What a wonderful feeling to know that Jesus is making sure that when we have fufilled our time here on earth that we will be taken care of.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Just as we received Your Son, Christ Jesus as Lord, we continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as we were taught, and overflowing in thankfulness.
May our words, our actions, and our thoughts be full of praise as we consider all that we have and choose not to dwell on that which we have not.
Above every other blessing is the gift of Your Son, Jesus, who came into the world to save us from our sins.
And the greatest gift yet to come is the inheritance that awaits Your faithful servants when we leave earth to join You in heaven.

It is Tuesday November 27, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of I Corinthians, please read I Corinthians 10 -- 13 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the guidelines for worship; the Lord's Supper; spiritual gifts of love, and the greatest gift of all.
Surprising as it may seem to the world, from God's point of view it is more important to be known for your loving-kindness, thoughtfulness, and consideration of others than for being a famous evangelist, preacher, or teacher. "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal." (I Corinthians 13:1).
It is also more important to be known for one's love, as God loves, than for being the most prominent prophetic speaker in the world. Paul went on to reveal this God-given ability to love: "And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." (13:2-3).
The word charity in the Bible relates to having compassion and love for one another without the intent of receiving anything in return. "Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away." (13:4-8)
True charity does not brag with inflated ideas of its own importance, meaning it does not insist on its own way and is never wanting anything in return. Neither is it self-seeking, quick to take offense, or resentful. Love does not think evil of anyone. This God kind of love is very patient and never envious or boastful toward others.
Another dimension of charity is that it does not allow you to behave unseemly or rude, it does not make you think about yourself, or become easily provoked, you think no evil, are tactful, charitable, and willing to forgive. Love has a way of making us more concerned for the feelings and rights of others and less preoccupied with our own. The love of God keeps us from always trying to grab the best for ourselves or taking advantage of others.
Love also has a way of keeping us from listening to people who are anxious to pass on the latest gossip about the faults and failures of other brothers or sisters in Christ. "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." (I John 4:7-8).

Thank you for showing me what true charity means and teach me to take what I learn today and apply it to my everyday life.
Help me to focus on others and not worry about myself for I know that You will provide me with everything that I need and desire.

Bible Study: November 26, 2007

It is Monday November 26, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of I Corinthinans. Please read, I Corinthians 5 -- 9 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Immorality and other sins condemned; the guidelines for marriage and Christian conduct.
It was reported to Paul that one member of the church in Corinth was committing fornication or adultery with his father's wife which seems to mean that he had an ongoing sexual relationship with his stepmother. It is a violation of the law for a man to see the nakedness of his father's wife yet someone was publicly praising his actions. "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you." (I Corinthians 5:1-2)
Whether his father was still alive is not indicated, however, Paul warned them to immediately exclude themselves from the offending member explaining to them that one person can cause others in the group to follow suit. "For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." (I Corinthians 5:3-8).
Of great concern is not only how our lives affect our relationship with God but also, equally important, how they affect our church, families, and Christian friends. When leaders of a church body allow obvious ongoing sin among its members it encourages a sinner to excuse his own sin, as well as continue to influence others to follow his immoral lifestyle.
However, If we believe what God has said in His Word about sin, there is accountability for it. Consequently, the decision to say or do nothing, merely in the interest of harmony is in opposition to what the Holy Spirit led Paul to write. "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person." (5:11-13).
Because of the inevitable results of sin Paul reminded them not to judge those who sin as were all sinners, but he does urge us to keep away from them until they have accepted Jesus and repented of their sin. The key word here is WERE because all who have truly received Christ as Savior and Lord should have forsaken their sins and been washed clean from them. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (6:9-11).
We all have a choice to live for the world or live for Jesus, we can not do both and that is why so many people refrain from following Jesus. Simply put, they do not want to give up their wordly lives and fear that by following Jesus they have to be boring and live by strict rules which were not made by God, but man. All who truly accept Jesus into their hearts will in fact change, the once wordly things that they loved become things of the past and a new life develops far beyond anything that they expected. Of course there will be struggles just as those who choose not to follow HIm, but those struggles become strengths as we become free from the bondage of wordly desires.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with a new day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day.
Lord, I ask You today to be with those who struggle with choosing to follow You.
Work in their hearts and give them peace knowing that they are making the right decision with You.
Lord, I also ask you to give us the strength to live in this world without falling into the temptations that cause us to sin.
Help us to stay focused on You so that we are living in Your glory and not captive to our fleshly desires.
I know that with You all things are possible and I am blessed knowing that through the struggles You will carry me and lead me to victory in all that I do.

Bible Study: November 25, 2007

It is Sunday November 25, 2007 and today we are beginning our studies on teh book of I Corinthians. Please read, I Corinthians 1 -- 4 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the Grace and faithfulness of God; problems at Corinth; Christians, as temples of God; and the authority of apostles.
The church at Corinth was divided over who was the most spiritual leader. Paul wanted them to realize that all ministers were just servants believing in Christ and telling others about Him. "I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord." (I Corinthians 3:4-9).
In writing to the Romans, Paul illustrated this troublesome disagreement by saying: "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." (Romans 14:5).
We are members of the Body of Christ. Our foremost concern should be that we be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?" (I Corinthians 1:10-13). All of us need each other, as together we can fulfill the Lord's will in the Body of Christ through our prayers, tithes, gifts, talents, and witnessing to others. No one should feel indispensable or inadequate, for all are one in Christ.
It takes every Christian to make up the Body of Christ, which is the Church, and, without exception, everyone is needed, we are all partakers of the bread of Christ and we are labourers together with God. "Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon." (3:8-10). This leaves no room for envying another person's ability or usefulness, nor for being puffed up with pride as if we had done anything of ourselves. Both jealousy and pride dishonor Christ and destroy the spirit of unity. The differences are often ignored because the real problem is not recognized.
It is important to recognize that Paul was not expecting uniformity of views but oneness of Spirit in the midst of differences. "The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." (James 3:17-18).
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Father, it would be easy to be driven to despair in the midst of the evil that surrounds us if we didn't walk in the light of Your truth.
We walk in the true wisdom that comes from heaven, not in the flawed wisdom that comes from the world.
Help us to make the most of every opportunity to stand up for divine truth in our speech and in our actions.
We want to be the light that shines forth in the creeping darkness of our land so that we can show others the way to eternal life.

It is Saturday November 24, 2007 and today we are completing our studies on the book of Romans. Please read, Romans 14 -- 16 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the law of love concerning doubtful things; Jewish and Gentile believers sharing the same salvation; Paul's desire to visit Rome; and a personal greeting.
Not one person in history, except Jesus, has lived without sinning. However, since we do not know the hearts of anyone, we are warned not to judge anyone who falls into sinful habits. "Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand." (Romans 14:1-4).
We that are strong in our faith are to help those who are weak, "We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." (15:1-4). The greatest example of how we are to live our lives is Jesus Christ, who unselfishly took all our sins upon Himself, suffering insult, persecution, and a cruel physical death on the cross for our sakes. His personal sacrifice demonstrated the Christian way to deal with people for their good and God's glory.
The stronger brother will willingly put aside his personal desires and lovingly consider how to strengthen his weaker brother without passing judgment, so as not to give satan a foothold through division or self-righteousness.
When we allow Christ to be Lord of our lives, it results in a sincere, compassionate concern for others, not only for a weaker brother or sister in Christ, but for the lost as well. Spiritual discernment leads us to be understanding of others and their situations. The advice to bear the infirmities of others requires compassion and active involvement on the part of mature Christians.
Even now, Christ is making intercession on our behalf because of our weaknesses and temptations. "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen." (Romans 16:25-27).
While it is true that God judges sin and makes it clear that we must learn from it through longsuffering and teaching, He also lets us know that through the suffering that He loves us and is merciful to us. "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (II Timothy 4:1-4), "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." Romans 16:24

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with another day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day.
Lord, any words we speak or pictures we draw cannot fully describe your infinite love.
Your boundless love reaches beyond the heavens and yet it penetrates our individual hearts.
It is only in experiencing a personal relationship with you that we begin to sense the inexhaustible and pure love that comes only from You.
Even as the waves of the ocean are powerful and wash over the rocks may Your abundant love fill my life to overflowing so that Christ's love is seen through me.

It is November 23, 2007 and today we are cotinuing our studies on teh book of Romans. This is page two of today's studies, please, read Romans 11 -- 13 In Today's Scripture Reading we will be learning about Israel still waiting to be saved, and the duties of a Christian in personal life, in the church, in society, and toward government.
To be a Christian is to receive a new nature, the nature of God, we literally die to self and are reborn. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (John 3:6-7). Then the indwelling Holy Spirit enables us to let Christ control our lives instead of our controlling our own lives under our old master satan.
It is only reasonable that we should live each day manifesting Christ's resurrection life, free from Satan's control. The Apostle Paul wrote: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Romans 12:1-3).
As we read through the Bible and obey it, God's Word becomes our spiritual food and our source of strength and spiritual insight to accomplish His will. Just as physical food is assimilated into our bodies to provide good health and physical strength, so the indwelling Holy Spirit strengthens our spiritual lives through His Word that we might be healthy in our spiritual lives. The Holy Spirit alone can guide you into all truth, however, He will not guide us into all truth if we refuse to read all truth from Genesis through Revelation. We are either a slave to sin and under the influence of satan or a child of God with a desire for Him to control our lives. This is true freedom. The Word of God enlightens and then empowers us to overcome our former way of life. Jesus declares if you Know The Truth, and The Truth shall set you free. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32-32).
We daily live in the midst of many voices calling for our attention. We will always be tempted to satisfy our self-serving, fleshly desires. We also need to daily be on guard against allowing good things, or even good people, to occupy our time and keep us from the best God has for us. Life is far too short to allow material possessions and the desire for worldly accomplishments to dominate our lives. Our opportunities to serve the Lord and to be prepared to meet Him will soon end so it is far more important to desire the treasure of the Lord, after all when you choose to follow the Lord and put Him about all things all your earthly desires and needs will be met. "Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is." (Ephesians 5:14-17).

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with a new day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day.
Sometimes, Lord, I need to justify my thoughts and actions, too often I seem to fall short of living the life that You intended for me to live.
I easily get discouraged and want to give up on my quest to fulfill the calling that you have on my life.
Lord, please forgive me and teach me to live my life for your glory and not for the world's.
It is a big encouragement to me when I remember how you coped during your life on earth when you were misunderstood.
Grant me the grace I need to follow your lead.

It is Friday November 23, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Romans. I apologize for not getting a message out for you yesterday, I was a bit under the weather.
Today's message will be 2 pages, first please read, Romans 8 -- 10 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the Law of life in the Spirit; the sovereignty of God; present suffering versus future glory; and of Israel's failure because of unbelief which became a means of mercy to Gentiles.
When we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and the Lord of our lives we receive the spiritual nature of God and sincerely desire that need to fulfill His calling on our lives. We learn how to live our lives for Him and not for the world, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." (Romans 8:2-7).
Praise God that we do not have to be ruled by the desires of our flesh, "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (8:11-14).
True repentance results in a change of heart and lifestyle. This change should manifest itself in our becoming involved in sharing the Good News, supporting mission ministries, and becoming involved in a local church when physically able. Sadly, some people join a church, attend worship services, give generously, and assume that their good works are sufficent enough to receive all the blessings God has to offer us in Heaven. All who accept Jesus into their lives will go to Heaven, however not everyone is going to receive the many blessings He has waiting for us. God's first concern is to give you eternal life, His second concern is that You also tell others how they can receive eternal life. God is aware that not everyone will accept him nor listen to you, but He is always aware of what you are doing for Him and will bless you abundantly for your work.
Set your eyes on Jesus and watch how your life will change, what once was important of the world no longer has meaning to you and new things will become more important. "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" (Colossians 3:2-10).

"IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD, AND TO SING PRAISES UNTO THY NAME, O MOST HIGH:"- Psalm 92:1
It is Wednesday November 21, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Romans. Please read, Romans 4 -- 7 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Justification, salvation, righteousness through Jesus Christ; sin through Adam; Christians under grace, not Law; and baptism explained.
The more we understand the horrible suffering and death of Jesus and the glory and power of His resurrection, the more we will desire to walk in newness of life, daily manifesting the life of Christ. "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." (Romans 6:4-6).
To commit ourselves only to the likeness of His death, of bearing the cross and of denying self, would produce a very dismal view of following Christ. It is the glorious indwelling power of His physical resurrection that not only frees us from sin's control but also daily encourages and strengthens us to walk in newness of life. Followers of Christ accept the fact that sin is no longer to be our master and that we are dead to sin. "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." (6:10-11).
This does not mean we no longer sin but that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to overcome sin! "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (6:12-14). Our old "natural" man is still capable of yielding to the sinful desires of the flesh. But, Christ has made it possible for us to experience the reality of being more than conquerors through Him, only when we focus on Jesus will we be able to break loose from those sinful desires.
Jesus' life in us makes the difference: "What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." (Romans 6:15-18).
Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Help me to remain faithful to You and your calling upon my life.
Strengthen and grow my faith as I daily search Your Scriptures and apply their truths to my spiritual walk.
As I go through the trials and experiences of my earthly journey please fix my eyes and my ever-wandering heart upon You, Jesus.
Only through you am I able to overcome the sinful desires of my flesh.

Bible Study: November 20, 2007

"Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength."- Psalm 132:8
It is Tuesday November 20, 2007 and today we are beginning our studies on the book of Romans. Please read, Romans 1 -- 3 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Paul's desire to visit the Christians in Rome; both Jews and Gentiles under condemnation; and the righteousness through faith.
Satan and all those who do not believe in Jesus will one day be cast into the eternal lake of fire (See Revelation 20:10-15). However, the true wrath of God are those who know about Him yet live ungodly and unrighteous lives. "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet." (Romans 1:18-27).
Three times we read that God gave them up to their degrading passions, "24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;" (1:24,26,28).
There are some who view sex (fornication) as no more than a physical appetite to be satisfied. But, Christ has said: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8). Sex is a gift from God which can only bring lasting satisfaction and fulfillment within the marriage relationship of one man with one woman. There is no victory over sexual perversion until it is seen for what it really is, not as sickness or as an alternative lifestyle but as sin. "But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (II Corinthians 6:17-20)
In most of the world there is a disturbing and growing ignorance of the Bible, the only Book which reveals sin for what it is, a rebellion against God. He alone has the right to set the standard for righteousness. There is also a growing neglect of the Church and a tendency to use the Lord's day and His tithe for self-centered pleasures. Doing so usually leads to excuses for sin in an attempt to remove any sense of guilt.
God gives us a choice and when we accept Jesus into our lives whether we admit it or not things will change and the once sinful habits that we had including sex without marriage will be few and far between and you will be less likely to fall intot temptation. God does let satan tempt us, but He also gives us a way out and never lets him tempt us with something that He knows we can not escape.
God knows that we have this flesh that is not always willing to stay focused on Him, but He loves us so much that He is willing to forgive all our sins and wipe them away forever. Trust in God and live for Him, you will see a wonderful new life unfold within you as all that weight is carried off of your shoulders.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with this day and thank you for the many blessings that you have given me and continue to give me each day.
Lord, I know that I have had and still have some sinful habits that I need to break. Forgive me, Lord for all the things that I have done knowingly and unknowingly that satisfied the desires of my flesh.
Lord, walk with me, guide me and be with me in all that I do for I am weak and can only be strong in your presence.
Lead me away from the temptaions that cause me to sin and help me to stay focused on you so that my mind is not quick to wander into thoughts of sinful habits.

It is Monday November 19, 2007 and today we are completing out studies on the book of Acts. Please read, Acts 26 -- 28 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Paul's defense before Agrippa; his voyage to Rome; a storm at sea; a shipwreck at Melita; and Paul in Rome.
When Saul of Tarsus, also known as Paul, confessed his faith in Jesus as the risen Savior and Messiah he came into much opposition including being arrested and tossed from town to town because no one could really convict him for telling the world about Jesus, this time he was brought before King Agrippa. "Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:" Acts (26:1) Paul continues, the Festus, the new Roman governor of Judea, exclaimed that he was not speaking the truth."Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles. And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner." (26:22-26).
Since Paul, as a Roman citizen, had appealed his case to Caesar, Festus placed him in the custody of one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band. "Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar. And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band." (26:32,27:1). Julius was to take Paul safely to Rome to stand trial before Nero, the Roman Emperor. They set sail and, after a brief docking at Sidon, continued along the northern coast of Cyprus.
However, stormy winds kept them from making much progress. "And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone; And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea. Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west." (27:7-12).
Shortly afterwards, furious hurricane winds came upon them and after two stormy weeks, their ship began to sink off the coast of Melita. "But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me." (27:21-25). From this experience we learn that our judgment is only as good as our source of information.
Our life's voyage, like Paul's, may also be filled with violent storms. We may experience physical, financial, or emotional "shipwreck" and all hope that we should be saved may appear to be gone, but, there will come a day when the tempests we have weathered will seem insignificant compared to what God has accomplished through our faithfulness. Because of Christ, Paul could confidently say: "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." (II Corinthians 12:10).
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Steer the ship of my life, good Lord, to your quiet harbour, where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict.
Show me the course I should take. Renew in me the gift of good judgement, so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
Give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course, even when the sea is rough and the waves are high.
Comfort me knowing that through enduring hardship and danger in your name we shall find peace.

It is Sunday November 18, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Pleas read Acts 23 -- 25 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn of Paul going before the Sanhedrin (religious rulers); the Jews vow to kill Paul; Paul sent to Felix; Paul goes before Festus; and his appeal to Caesar.
When the Apostle Paul arrived in Jerusalem following his third missionary journey, the religious leaders stirred up all the people with false accusations: (Acts 21:27-28). In response, an angry mob seized Paul and tried to kill him, but he was rescued from their violence by Roman soldiers. He was then allowed to speak in his own defense to the Jews. When Paul mentioned his commission by Jesus to go to the Gentiles, they immediately considered him a traitor to their religion, and angrily shouted to kill him.
When the Sanhedrin authorities failed to convict Paul, religious zealots (Jewish rebels) decided to take the law into their own hands and murder him. "And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy. And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him." (23:12-15). However, Paul's sister's son overheard their wicked plan to murder Paul and told the Roman captain, who then had Paul secretly transferred by night to Felix, the Roman governor of Judea residing at Caesarea. "And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him. So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee." (23:16-18). "So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor." (23:22-24)
During his several years' confinement in Caesarea, Paul was tried before three powerful rulers of the Roman Empire who listened to what he had to say about his faith in Jesus Christ. He faithfully reasoned of righteousness, temperance (self-control), and judgment to come. "And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee." (24:24-25) Each of his judges had a different reaction as Paul spoke of the judgment to come. His first judge Felix trembled, but he only heard him from time to time. Later, his second judge Festus exposed his indifference when he exclaimed in a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself (out of your mind) (26:24). And, for whatever he may have meant, his third judge Agrippa said: Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian (26:28). Whether Agrippa's words were sincere, or sarcastic, as some think, is not important, the outcome was the same. As far as we know, none of these men received Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives and, consequently, all were eternally lost.
There is only one convenient time to repent and receive Christ as Savior and Lord: Behold, now is the day of salvation. "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)" (II Corinthians 6:1-2).

Dear Lord,
Today I want to pray unjudgmentally for those people who have fallen from grace.
I pray your Holy Spirit will continue his gracious work of conviction and correction.
And I pray in the knowledge that sometimes I need to be the beneficiary of that work.
Help me to stay focused on you when I am struggling and keep telling others about You no matter what I am going through.

It is Saturday November 17, 2007 anjd today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts, please read Acts 20 -- 22 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn of Paul's mission to Macedonia and Greece; the raising of Eutychus from death; a message to the Ephesian elders; and Paul seized in the Temple.
The Apostle Paul met with the Ephesian elders at Miletus, "And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:18-24).
The indwelling Holy Spirit will strengthen us to withstand our trials and temptations just as He did for Paul. Jesus promised believers: "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" (John 14:14-16). We have not been left alone but are strengthened with might by His Spirit.
With the assurance of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, we can face life with certainty concerning our future. This enables us to enjoy a deep, inward peace that comes from God. Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27). We experience a contentment that suroasses all understanding, one that outward circumstances cannot affect. Because God, who is merciful and loving, is within us, we can respond to others with love and mercy that sweeps away all prejudice, jealousy, hate, and envy. No opposition can rob us of the peace God bestows when we permit Christ the King to reign over our emotions. Even though we do not always permit Jesus Christ to rule our emotions, we can say: "Though I'm not what I ought to be, I'm not what I used to be; thanks to Christ, I'm becoming what He has created me to be."
Spiritual growth takes place as we give, not just material things, but what people need most: our love, our forgiveness, and our understanding. In doing this, we are becoming more like Jesus. Paul never denounced the evil Roman Emperor Nero, but he prayed for him. Even as a prisoner in Rome, Paul wrote: "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1-4).

Dear Lord,
Lord Jesus, I am full of gratitude today as I consider Your abiding presence in my life.
You planned my existence in my mother's womb before I even drew my first breath.
When so many people have come into my life and exited it throughout the years You have taken up residence and You forever rule my heart.
When the path before me was unclear You have always gone before me sustaining me in my wilderness journey.
Though all forsake me You remain faithful, and remarkable as it seems, even if we are faithless, You will remain faithful, for You cannot deny Yourself.
Thank You for being my Supreme Savior and the Sustainer of my soul.

It is is Friday November 16, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 17 -- 19 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the Jewish opposition; Paul and Silas in Berea; Paul on Mars Hill and he meets Priscilla and Aquila in Corinth; Ephesus; and the silversmiths.
The Apostle Paul and his coworker Silas were brutally beaten by a mob in Philippi and thrown into prison. However, through God's intervention, they were released the next day. Paul was no quitter, and always comforting others no matter what happened to him. "And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace. But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out. And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans. And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city. And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed." (Acts 16:36-40)
Wherever he went, he always attended a Jewish synagogue and preached the Gospel to the Jews. "Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few." (17:1-4).
When the unbelieving religious leaders became aware of these conversions, they were outraged and started a riot. Immediately afterwards, Paul left by night and traveled southwest to Berea. Upon arrival, they went into another synagogue of the Jews. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people." (17:11-13).
Confessing Jesus as their Messiah was a monumental decision that would affect all people in their lives, family, friends, and business associates. Their dedication to the truth should encourage everyone, regardless of religious training, to study all the Scriptures with a sincere desire to know the Truth it reveals. Our Creator has given each of us only one physical lifetime to prepare for our eternal destiny. We have a dual responsibility to become the person He wants us to be in order to accomplish the purposes for which He created us. Think how tragic it will be to face Jesus for those who have failed to fulfill the will of God and wasted their few short years only achieving material, social, and financial goals for self-gratification. God has provided the one perfect Guidebook, His Word. When we obey it and follow Jesus as our Savior and our God we have peace with God.
"And the times of this ignorance God winked at (overlooked); but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." (Acts 17:30-31).

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with this day and thank you for the many blessings you have given me each day.
Forgive me, Lord, of the wasted years that I spent trying to fulfill the needs of my flesh and not fulfilling Your needs.
I am weak and can only do the things that I need to do for you when You are with me.
Please, Lord, Walk with me guide me and be with me in all that I do, forgive me of all my sins and help me to learn to do everything for Your glory.

It is Thursday November 15, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 14 -- 16 In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Paul and Barnabas at Iconium; the stoning of Paul at Lystra; the return to Antioch; Paul on a second missionary journey; Paul's Macedonian vision; the conversion of Lydia; and the conversion of a Philippian jailer.
In Iconium, about 90 miles east of Pisidian Antioch, violent opposition again erupted when Paul told the unbelieving Jews that Jesus was the Messiah as foretold by the prophets, "And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren." (14:1-2).
Almost everywhere Paul and Barnabas traveled an assault was made on their lives, he fled from Iconium and went about 20 miles to Lystra. "Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:" (Acts 14:3-6).
While in Lystra Paul's attention was drawn to a crippled man. "And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked." (14:8-10). Upon seeing this miraculous healing, the people were convinced that the gods have come down to us in the likeness of men, but Paul and Barnabas strongly objected to being made objects of idolatrous worship and convinced the people turn their passion toward God. "And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them." (14:11-18).
Following this event, certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, persuaded the people and forced him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. "And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe." (14:19-20).
Later, Paul made a brief reference to his sufferings for Christ, explaining that we must go through tribulation in order to enter the Kingdom of God. "And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God." (14:22).
Whenever there is a true spiritual awakening and people are being saved, without exception, Satan will seek to disrupt, discourage, and destroy the results. So, we too should not be surprised that, following our best efforts to serve the Lord, Satan will seek to discourage us through hardships and even disappointments from those of whom we may have expected encouragement. Paul, the man God chose to write most of our New Testament, faced many dangers; but still he was able to write: "I know both how to be abased (belittle), and I know how to abound (flourish): every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:12-13).

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for blessing me with another day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings that you give me each day.
Lord, I am coming you today to ask you for the strength that I need to focus on You in my times of sorrow and pain.
Forgive me, Lord for letting the world to keep me in captivity, please free me from the vanities of the world.
I understand that by following you I am going to be subject to the oppositions of those who do not believe that you are the one true God, but I also know that as long as You are with me I can do all things through You, my Jesus who strengthens me.
Be with me in all that I do and bless me with a prosperous day that is for Your glory.

It is Wednesday November 14, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 11 -- 13. In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Peter's report to the Jerusalem church; the death of James; Peter's imprisonment and deliverance; the death of Herod; and Paul's first missionary journey.
Saul of Tarsus was born a Jew, but he was also a Roman citizen by birth in the town of Tarsus in Cilicia, a Roman province. His family, it seems, had considerable wealth. Following the prescribed study of the Scriptures in Tarsus, Saul was selected for further rabbinic studies in Jerusalem as a student of the famous Rabbi Gamaliel. Paul later shared with the Galatian Christians that he was exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers, "And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers." (Galatians 1:14).
After he accepted Jesus as the Messiah, he changed his Hebrew name Saul to his Roman (Gentile) name Paul to identify himself better with the Gentiles. On his first missionary journey, Paul and his company departed from Perga to Antioch in Pisidia, a Roman province of Galatia in what is now Turkey. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down. And after the reading of the Law and the prophets they were invited to speak. "Now when Paul and his company loosed (departed) from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. " (Acts 13:13-16)
Paul chose prophetic Scriptures to prove that Jesus was the Messiah. He began with a review of how the God of Israel chose David to be raised as king and become the offspring of Jesus. "The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: " (13:17,22-23) "For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people." (27-31).
Through Christ's death and resurrection, we receive eternal life. But, being saved and justified from all things is far more than just choosing a better way of life. First, it is realizing the awfulness of sin as an offense against God, having real sorrow for our sins and a sincere desire to be delivered from those sins. This is followed by a decision to live life by avoiding and resisting sin through the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul declared: "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified (set free) from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." (Acts 13:38-39).

Dear Lord,
Lord, for many the circumstances in life are so uncertain.
The solutions to our problems can be very perplexing and seem beyond our grasp.
There are many things about tomorrow that we don't seem to understand. But we know Who holds tomorrow, and we do know Who holds our hand.
Thank you, God, that You don't expect us to have all the right answers or to fully understand all that concerns us.
You simply want us to trust You as we hold on to Your unchanging hand while You go before us making our paths straight.
Grant us the grace to trust You more.

It is Tuesday November 13, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 9 -- 10. In Today's Scripture Reading we will lear about the conversion of Saul; Dorcas is raised from the dead; visions of Peter and Cornelius; and the Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit.
Saul of Tarsus was a sincere Pharisee determined to stamp out the followers of Jesus, whom he considered religious blasphemers worthy of the death penalty. So he obtained letters from the high priest to go about 135 miles northeast to Damascus in Syria to arrest Christians who had fled from Jerusalem. "And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem." (9:2-3)
As he approached Damascus, something incredible happened to him, "And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. " (9:3-6).
Three days later, the Lord spoke to Ananias, a disciple of Christ who lived in Damascus, saying to him: "And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight." (9:11-12). Ananias replied to the Lord: "Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized." (9:13-18).
At about the same time, Peter also had a vision which caused him to realize that God is no respecter of persons, meaning that He loves us all the same. "Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him." (10:34-35).
Speaking to Gentiles at the home of Cornelius, Peter declared: "To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word." (10:43-44). After they were filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter asked: "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days." (10:47-48).
"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."(I Corinthians 12:13).
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
Lord Jesus, help me to remain faithful to You and your calling upon my life. Strengthen and grow my faith as I daily search Your Scriptures and apply their truths to my spiritual walk.
As I go through the trials and experiences of my earthly journey would You fix my eyes and my ever-wandering heart upon You, Jesus.
When the howling winds and forceful storms of this life attempt to shipwreck my faith may they instead prove my faith to be more than sufficient to withstand the continual assaults from the enemy.
Because I take refuge in You, Jesus my spiritual foundation is firm, always dependable, and leads me to glorious victory.

It is Monday November 12, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 7 -- 8. In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Stephen's speech; his martyrdom; Saul's persecution of Christians; Simon, the sorcerer; and Philip and the Ethiopian.
Stephen was a deacon in the church at Jerusalem who knew the Old Testament Scriptures very well. He boldly reminded the unbelieving authorities: "Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." (Acts 7:51-56).
With the same hatred which had caused the crucifixion of Christ, the angry authorities dragged Stephen out of the city, and stoned him. As he was dying, he . . . cried to the Lord, "And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep." (7:59-60).
Stephen could have avoided death by saying nothing, but he made it clear that the religious authorities were responsible for crucifying Jesus, the Just One. Stephen's faith and forgiving attitude in the face of death was the same as his Savior's on the cross, and it surely must have made a powerful impression on those who witnessed Stephen's love toward his murderers. In the same spirit of love, we too need to pray for those who despitefully treat us badly. Those who seem to be our enemies today may someday be saved if we express the love of Christ to them as Stephen did to his persecutors.
At that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem. "And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation (weeping) over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison." (8:1-3).
Instead of discouraging believers, this resulted in a great missionary movement as Jesus' followers dispersed throughout the region. Philip, who was also a deacon in the first Church, was led by the Holy Spirit to meet an Ethiopian official on his way home. As he read the Book of Isaiah, God led Philip to explain to the Ethiopian how the prophecy of Isaiah had been fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken." (Isaiah 53:7-8)
On learning that Jesus was the Messiah, the Ethiopian asked to be baptized "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing." (Acts 8:36-39). A true baptism is one where a person accepts Jesus as their saviour and is immersed in water to symbolize purification.

Dear Lord,
I praise and thank You with my heart for the liberation You have given me from the clutches of sin and Satan. By Your death on the Cross of Calvary,
You have put my old life with its sin and judgement to death forever, and endowed me with a new life that is filled with joy.
My Lord, on this day, I rededicate myself to live in You and live a life for Your glory, it is by Your grace that I must be counted worthy to be called Your child.
Help me to keep Your commandments and let this day be the beginning of greater spiritual depths even in the coming days.

It is Sunday November 11, 2007 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Acts. Please Read Acts 4 -- 6. In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Peter and John imprisoned; believers share their possessions; Ananias and Sapphira; seven helpers are chosen; and Stephen's arrest.
Loyalty to the Lord and love for one another spread the first Church. "And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet." (Acts 4:32-37). Undoubtedly, this was a great encouragement to the congregation because most Jews who confessed Jesus as the Messiah had probably lost their jobs.
Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property; but, they gave only a part of the proceeds to the Church while implying they were giving everything just as others had done. "But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet." (5:1-2). The property was theirs to dispose of as they chose. All giving was voluntary and no one was required to sell his property or to share his wealth, but, the "generous gift" of Ananias and Sapphira was a lie to the Holy Ghost. "But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God." (5:4-5)
The problem today is even more serious, not because Christians keep part of the proceeds of a sale, but because many refuse to give even a tithe (10%) of their income, the minimum that God requires for the ministry of His Word. Tithing is not an option; it is a debt we owe. God rightfully owns all that He created, but He only requires us to return to Him one-tenth of what He has entrusted to us, thereby acknowledging that we are only stewards (managers) of His property.
This principle was demonstrated by Abraham over 500 years before the Law was given (Genesis 14:20). Later, the Law stated: "And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD. And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed." (Leviticus 27:30-33). What this means is that when we trust in the Lord and give him what is required (10% of our earnings) he blesses us and adds to our earnings.
The Holy Spirit also directed Luke to write that you can't outgive God, who said: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal (measure anything) it shall be measured to you again." (Luke 6:38).

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with another day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings You have given me so far today.
Lord, forgive me of my sins and stay with me all through the day to help me walk away from the temptations that cause me to sin.
If I have not been honoring You with what you have asked me to give to you please forgive me and work in my heart to tell me how much I need to give.
Bless me with your presence in all that I do today as I do things for Your glory and not my own. I trust in You, Lord and know that You will bless me for my obedience.

It is Saturday November 10, 2007 and today we will begin our studies on the book of Acts. Please read Acts 1 -- 3. In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about the ascension of Christ; the promise of the Lord's return; Matthias is chosen to replace Judas; the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost; and Peter's sermon.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread portrayed the sinless Savior, who is the Bread of Life and was celebrated in conjunction with the Passover. The lamb without blemish who was offered as a sacrifice at Passover also typified Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God. The third festival of Passover week was called the Firstfruits. It was celebrated on the Sunday following the Passover observance. It was on the day of Firstfruits that Jesus arose: "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept." (I Corinthians 15:20). Jesus walked the earth for 40 days after he rose and taught his deciples many things, "Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:" (Acts 1:2-3)
The second major festival for which every male was to appear annually before God was 50 days later, the morrow after the seventh Sabbath (Rest Day) following Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:15-16). It was the feast of the spring harvest and celebrated the first ingathering of the crops.
This festival became known to Christians as Pentecost (Greek: pent'kost') from the Greek word for 50 (pent'konta). On that day, being filled with the Holy Spirit and quoting the prophetic Scriptures (Joel 2:28-29), Peter boldly proclaimed that God made Jesus, whom he crucified, both Lord and Christ. "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 2:36). Then the crowd responded to Peter, "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (2:37-42).
The required offering on Pentecost consisted of two loaves of leavened bread (Leviticus 23:17). These two loaves foreshadowed both Jewish and Gentile believers, and included leaven, symbolizing sin, since everyone except Jesus has sinned. The separate identities of the ground grains, blended into a oneness, symbolize all believers who lose their individual identities to become the Bride of Christ -- His Church (Ephesians 5:21-32; I Corinthians 12:27). The Apostle Paul later declared: "Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all." (Colossians 3:11).

Dear Lord,
In moments of quiet private prayer like this I find no difficulty in totally consecrating myself afresh to you.
I long to be totally absorbed within your will. But I don't live in a monastery. You have placed me here in a busy world, and it's all too easy for me momentarily to forget these precious moments of sanctity and sanctuary.
Help me to stay close to you today in all that I do.

It is Friday November 9, 2007 and today we are completing our studies on the book of John. Please read John 19 -- 21. In Today's Scripture Reading we will learn about Christ's crucifixion, burial, resurrection, and his post-resurrection appearances to His disciples; and Peter's allegiance is reaffirmed.
Judas had led a mob and Roman soldiers to arrest Jesus. "And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year." (John 18:13).
According to the Word of God, the high priest was to be a direct descendant of Aaron and was to retain his office until death (Exodus 40:15; Numbers 35:25). However, Rome appointed a new high priest every year. Annas was high priest through Aaronic succession but had been deposed by Rome. He was succeeded by his son-in-law Caiaphas, who was the official high priest according to Rome. However, many people still considered Annas to be the true high priest.
Jesus, was led first to the Jewish and then the Gentile-appointed high priests. With Caiaphas were the scribes, the elders, the chief priests and all the council (Matthew 26:57). In response to the question by the high priest regarding His deity, Jesus said: "Hereafter shall ye see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven" (Matthew 26:64). Understanding that Jesus was claiming to be coequal with God and the prophesied Messiah, Caiaphas ripped his robe of authority as a sign of righteous indignation and shouted: "What further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard His blasphemy" (26:65). However, Caiaphas had ignored God's promise of a Prophet like Moses to whom they were to hearken (Deuteronomy 18:15). That Prophet -- Jesus the Messiah -- was standing before him.
Pilate knew Jesus was innocent of any criminal offense, but, the religious leaders cried out violently, "When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar." (19:6-12).
Pilate had to choose between Jesus the Son of God and the angry crowd; he chose the angry crowd. When a person compromises what is right in God's sight for fear of losing his job or anything else, he has taken the first step on the road to eternal hell. Jesus said: No servant can serve two masters (Luke 16:13).

Lord, You know the longings of my heart. When I seek thrills and quick fixes to satisfy these needs I am eventually disappointed and know that You are disappointed in me.
Your supply of Living Water never runs dry and satisfies the inner desires of my heart because You are the only One who can meet my spiritual needs.
Lord, as I come today dry and thirsty I look to You, for You satisfy the thirsty and fill the hungry with good things."
